A Message from Our Founder

A young man in a baseball cap and hoodie walking outdoors, seen in black and white, with a blurred background of trees and a building.
The U.S. soccer system is broken. It’s a pay-to-play model that favors the wealthy and leaves far too many players priced out of opportunities. Everyone knows it’s broken, but very few are actually doing anything to fix it.

San Buenaventura FC exists to do exactly that.

I founded this club to change the game and to be different. To flip the script and put players and community first. To create opportunities and a platform for future generations without the financial barriers that define today’s system. To prove that there is another way.

Ventura is my home. I was born and raised here. This community shaped who I am. I’ve seen the talent that lives in Ventura County. Real, raw, undeniable talent. Players who deserve a platform. A community that deserves a team to call its own.

And I’m going to make that happen.
— Cameron DeJong, Founder

mission

Our mission is to build a football club that belongs to the community. SBVFC exists to provide free, high-level opportunities for players while building a club that reflects Ventura’s identity, culture, and future.

Vision

We are building a club that becomes a pillar in Ventura County. A club that develops players, inspires young athletes, partners with local businesses, and creates a match day experience the city can be proud of. Our vision is long-term growth, local investment, and a football culture rooted in the 805.

Goals

SBVFC is starting from the ground up. Our early goals include:

• Build a competitive first team of local Ventura County players
• Create a strong supporter base rooted in local pride
• Host high-quality matches, community events, and youth outreach
• Build long-term partnerships that sustain the club’s growth
• Develop a model that can grow into youth, women’s, and U23 teams

Values

SBVFC was created on three core principles.

Access.
Football opportunities should never depend on money. Our players never pay to play.

Opportunity.
We create pathways to college, professional environments, and international opportunities.

Community.
SBVFC collaborates with local schools, businesses, and organizations to strengthen Ventura through football.
