SBVFC Tryouts Recap: A Strong First Step
June 27, 2025 – Las Piedras Park, Santa Paula, CA
San Buenaventura FC held its first-ever open tryouts on June 27, 2025, at Las Piedras Park — marking a major milestone in the launch of Ventura County’s newest semi-professional football club. As the on-field representation of the Ventura Football Network (VFN), SBVFC was built for moments like this.
The turnout was strong, with 23 talented players showing up ready to compete for a place in the inaugural squad. The level of play was impressive across the board — a reflection of the untapped talent in our community when barriers are removed and opportunity is made real.
This wasn’t just a tryout — it was a community moment. Families and local residents gathered on the sidelines to watch the action unfold, turning the park into a symbol of what grassroots football can be when it’s open, accessible, and driven by purpose.
Free and Fair, the Way It Should Be
In line with the mission of VFN, the tryout was 100% free for all players. Every participant received:
Professional footage from our Hudl live stream
High-quality photographs captured by our event photographer
A real opportunity to earn a place on the SBVFC roster
This wasn’t a pay-to-play experience. It was a proof of concept — that we can elevate football in our community without financial barriers.
