Ventura Football Network Corporation is a Ventura-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to expanding Equity, Access, and Opportunity through football. VFN develops community programs, events, and partnerships that reduce financial and structural barriers to participation.
VFN is recruiting coaches for a six-week middle school futsal program delivered in partnership with the Ventura Unified School District On-Campus Enrichment, Academics, & Nurturing program.
Job Summary
The Middle School Futsal Head Coach will lead one boys’ or girls’ team at a participating VUSD middle school. The coach will provide age-appropriate futsal instruction, create a safe and welcoming environment, support player development, and represent VFN professionally when working with students, families, school personnel, and program staff.
Each coach is expected to lead twelve one-hour training sessions and coach their assigned team during one culminating tournament day.
Primary responsibilities include:
Plan and lead organized, age-appropriate futsal training sessions.
Teach technical skills, game understanding, teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship.
Create an inclusive environment for players with different skill and experience levels.
Follow the VFN curriculum, program schedule, safety procedures, and code of conduct.
Maintain appropriate supervision and professional boundaries with students.
Inspect the playing area and equipment before each session.
Respond appropriately to injuries, behavioral concerns, and other incidents.
Communicate attendance, incidents, scheduling issues, and program needs to the authorized VFN lead.
Coordinate professionally with VUSD site personnel and approved program staff.
Lead the assigned team during one tournament day at E.P. Foster Elementary School.
Attend required orientation, training, and site briefings.
Requirements and Qualifications
Applicants should demonstrate the following:
Must be at least 18 years old.
Experience coaching soccer or futsal.
Ability to work effectively with middle-school-aged students.
Knowledge of age-appropriate player development and positive coaching practices.
Strong communication, leadership, organization, and reliability.
Ability to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive team environment.
Dependable transportation to the assigned school and tournament site.
Availability for the full program schedule, including practices and one tournament day.
Willingness to follow all VFN and VUSD policies, safety procedures, and reporting requirements.
Successful completion of all required background screening, fingerprinting, mandated-reporter training, onboarding, and other clearance requirements before student contact.
Preferred qualifications include:
Previous experience coaching middle-school-aged players.
Soccer or futsal coaching education, certification, or license.
Current CPR, first-aid, or concussion-awareness certification.
Previous experience in a school, after-school, nonprofit, or youth-development setting.
Familiarity with the Ventura community or participating VUSD schools.
Bilingual communication skills, particularly English and Spanish.
Compensation
Total compensation for the completed coaching assignment is $800.
This compensation covers:
Twelve one-hour team training sessions
Reasonable preparation and session setup
Routine program communication and reporting
Attendance at required program orientation and site briefing
Leadership of the assigned team during one tournament day
Normal post-session and tournament closeout responsibilities
Payment timing, required documentation, and the position’s employment or independent-contractor classification will be communicated before an applicant accepts the assignment.
Compensation is contingent upon completing all assigned responsibilities and satisfying VFN and VUSD screening, fingerprinting, training, onboarding, and student-contact clearance requirements.
Comments and Other Information
This is a paid, temporary coaching opportunity connected to a six-week VUSD middle school futsal program.
The program dates are January 11 through February 21, 2027. Training is expected to take place twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Coaches should plan to arrive before each session for setup and remain afterward for student handoff and closeout responsibilities.
Participating schools are expected to include Lemon Grove, Sunset, Atlas, and DATA Middle Schools. Each coach will be assigned to one school and one boys’ or girls’ team. The culminating tournament is tentatively scheduled for February 20 and 21, 2027, at E.P. Foster Elementary School. Each coach will work one assigned tournament day with their team.
Final assignments, program dates, working hours, compensation, onboarding requirements, and employment or contractor classification will be communicated by Ventura Football Network before an applicant accepts a position.
