A short interval separates the two halves.

Eligible players may be added throughout the season.
Running clock
The game clock runs continuously during each 20-minute half, except when the referee stops play for an injury, serious incident or other exceptional circumstance.
Rolling substitutions
Substitutions are unlimited and may occur while play continues. The departing player must leave through the substitution zone before the replacement enters.
Minimum players

Fast, fair and easy to understand
VFN follows the core principles of futsal with practical league modifications for facility schedules, participant safety and consistent game management.
Five players per team
Each team plays with one goalkeeper and four field players. A team may roster no more than 10 players.
Kick-ins
When the ball crosses a touchline, play restarts with a kick-in rather than a throw-in.
No offside
Futsal has no offside offence. Players may occupy attacking positions anywhere on the court.
Four-second restarts
Kick-ins, corner kicks, free kicks and goalkeeper possessions must generally be completed within four seconds.
Rolling substitutions
Substitutions are unlimited. Players must use the designated substitution zone and avoid entering early.
Goalkeeper possession
The goalkeeper must release or play the ball within four seconds and may only use their hands inside the penalty area.
Accumulated fouls
Direct-free-kick fouls are counted by half. Beginning with the sixth accumulated foul, the opponent receives a direct free kick without a defensive wall.
Slide tackling
Sliding into or through an opponent is prohibited. The referee may allow a safe slide that does not challenge or endanger another player.
Yellow and red cards
Misconduct may result in a caution or dismissal. A dismissed player cannot return to the match.
Two-minute penalty
After a red card, the penalized team generally plays with one fewer player for two minutes, subject to the applicable goal-scored rule.
Required equipment
Players must wear shin guards, matching team colors and safe indoor footwear. Jewelry must be removed.
Referee authority
The referee has final authority over fouls, misconduct, safety, player eligibility and match decisions.
Reckless contact, fighting, threats, discriminatory conduct, abuse of officials and repeated unsporting behavior may result in removal, suspension or league expulsion.
The final VFN league rulebook controls if this summary conflicts with an official league ruling or facility requirement.
