Ventura Football Network began with a simple belief: talent and opportunity should never be separated by a player’s ability to pay.
The problem
was impossible
to ignore.
VFN was founded by Cameron DeJong, a Ventura County coach and former professional player who saw talented athletes overlooked because they could not afford the pay-to-play system.
Years of coaching in the community brought Cameron alongside players from many backgrounds. The talent was present. The ambition was present. What was missing was a pathway designed to meet players where they were—one that did not make financial access the price of being seen.
That experience made one thing clear: football needed another model, one rooted in accessibility, opportunity and community.

Cameron’s perspective was shaped both on the field and from the sideline. As a former professional player and Ventura County coach, he understood the demands of competition and the barriers facing families trying to access meaningful opportunities.
VFN grew from that firsthand experience—not as an abstract idea, but as a practical response to what local players needed.
